From Spain: Manchester United target Gareth Bale set to leave Real Madrid next summer

Manchester United target Gareth Bale will leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2017/18 campaign, according to reports from Spain.

The Welshman was linked with a move back to the Premier League back in the summer and Jose Mourinho even publicly registered an interest in securing his services.

No such move ever materialised but Bale has continued to struggle for regular game time at the Bernabeu following persistent injury problems, with his last La Liga start coming all the way back in September.

And according to Spanish media outlet Diaro Gol, Bale’s representatives and Real president Florentino Perez have agreed to part ways at the conclusion of this season.

Moving along Bale makes sense for a club that relies upon a constant supply of big names and, of course, success at the highest level. And ever since their Champions League win in May both of those two things have been in short supply, with Zinedine Zidane’s side, hardly supplemented over the summer, third in La Liga after 15 games.

They need something different, and so does Bale. He has gathered some valuable experience playing at the most pressurised level in world football but appears to have entered something of a groundhog day cycle of making promising returns before injuring himself again.

Mourinho has reportedly called on the club to sign a ‘magician’ forward to challenge Manchester City’s attacking zeal and Bale could be the perfect high profile candidate.
