Manchester United fans blast Romelu Lukaku for performance vs Manchester City

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United fans were hugely disappointed by Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku after his display vs Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were in desperate need of a win to close the gap to the league leaders to five points but were instead defeated themselves and are now trailing by an incredible eleven points.

The match ended 2-1 in City’s favour in a tale of two halves but Lukaku’s performance was consistently poor throughout the 90 minutes.

Goals came from Nicolas Otamendi, David Silva and Marcus Rashford but United couldn’t turn things around despite having around 30 minutes of the match to work with.

Romelu was guilty of a number of things other than just his lack of a goal and fans seem as though they won’t forgive him anytime soon.

The Belgian forward missed a clear cut chance in the second half, hitting his shot directly at Manchester City’s goalkeeper despite it coming in from point blank range.

Ederson was praised for his save but the truth is that Romelu Lukaku should’ve had the ball in the back of the net without a shadow of a doubt.

That goal would’ve levelled things for United and possibly spurred the team onwards in search of a winner, particularly since City started to sit deeper and deeper at that time.

Lukaku’s hold up play was atrocious as well, failing to link up well with his teammates or hold onto the ball himself.

A lot of the blame for the result will fall on the youngster’s shoulders and Mourinho will be concerned of his striker’s performances of late.
