Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent has refused to confirm rumours of serious interest from Manchester United.
The Reds have scouted the Serbian midfielder on a number of occasions this season, including recently as he scored an equaliser for Lazio against Sampdoria in a 2-1 win.
Il Messaggero have claimed Lazio would demand €100m for their star midfielder, who signed from Genk in 2015.
The 22-year-old’s agent, Mateja Kezman, has insisted rumours linking Milinkovic-Savic with Man United aren’t inappropriate at this time of the season.
“I am the only one who can discuss the future of Sergei with Lazio and therefore the only one who knows how things could go,” Kezman told LazioSiamoNoi.com.
“Now these new transfer rumours do not make sense and can put pressure on Lazio and distract the team, and they are currently having a great season.”
United manager Jose Mourinho has sent scouts to watch Milinkovic-Savic at Lazio. Links have further increased with the possibility of Marouane Fellaini leaving on a free transfer next summer as his deal comes to a close. Turkish side Besiktas are heavily linked.
Fellaini is yet to sign a new deal, and United will definitely need a new midfielder in the summer if that’s the case. Mourinho may look to bring in further midfield options even if Fellaini remains at the club, having also been linked to Valencia CF’s 20-year-old midfielder Carlos Soler and Leon Goretzka of Schalke 04.
Reports from Calciomercato.com in September claimed Mourinho was ‘enchanted’ by Milinkovic-Savic, and we know he’s prepared to pay a premium sum for his midfielders having signed Paul Pogba for a similar fee from Juventus in 2016, breaking the world transfer record fee at the time.
Kezman, when asked about a huge offer coming in from a top side, said, “this is a question to ask the team. Now we need peace of mind, this is definitely not the moment to talk about any kind of transfer.”
