Manchester United willing to offer club record bid for Lazia midfielder: report

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Lazio’s Serbian midfielder Sergej Milikovic-Savic for a club record deal.

The Red Devils recently lost to Manchester City in the derby at Old Trafford in the absence of star Frenchman Paul Pogba.

Jose Mourinho recently admitted that the club are short of players in Pogba’s mould and that his other midfield options are different to the former Juventus man.

It’s clear that the Portuguese believes that Paul is the only attack minded man in United’s engine room and it seems as though he’s willing to sign a player to address this issue.

That player appears to be 22 year old Sergej who was only recently signed by Italian club Lazio themselves.

According to the Express, Jose is willing to spend £95m to secure the Serbian international’s signature as the January transfer window rolls around.

The bid would break the club’s current record that was used to bring in Pogba, meaning Mourinho would be responsible for two record bids in as many seasons.

The former Chelsea manager’s eagerness to address the midfield may be due to the club’s outgoing players in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Marouane Fellaini‘s contract expires by then and as the days pass by it seems less and less likely that he will re-sign an extension.

Jose has already publicly spoken about his desire to tie the Belgian down but it appears as though Fellaini is finally willing to move on to secure first team football elsewhere.

Michael Carrick is also expected to retire at the end of the season, leaving space for fresh youngsters with Mourinho reportedly having an eye on Savic.
