Shaw made his first start in 219 days when Mourinho threw him in in last week’s UEFA Champions League victory against CSKA Moscow. The Englishman played the full 90 minutes to many people’s surprise and looked as if he had a point to prove.
He was in similar excellent form on Wednesday night as Man United beat AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Old Trafford. He left the pitch on the 82nd-minute mark to a standing ovation and Mourinho showed his appreciation for his performance with his reaction on the touchline.
Even at this stage, after a tricky couple of seasons under Mourinho, there is a hope that Shaw can be United’s long-term left-back for the best part of the next decade.
He has the talent, it’s whether he is given the opportunities and takes them. It’s been a positive last two games for Shaw.
