Manchester United legend Phil Neville has encouraged manager Jose Mourinho to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
The German international’s contract ends in next year’s summer transfer window and there have been multiple reports of United’s interest in the player.
Ozil joined the Gunners from Real Madrid and is apparently unhappy at the London club with fans worried that he’ll refuse to sign a contract extension.
Foreign clubs are free to approach Mesut in January, just over two weeks away and he’s yet to discuss his future publicly.
After scoring a beauty vs Newcastle in the Premier League though, Neville was convinced that Mourinho should chase the Arsenal midfielder’s signature.
Barcelona are reportedly also interested in Mesut Ozil but rumours have surfaced that Cristiano Ronaldo has urged his former teammate not to sign for the Catalans in order to not upset his relationship with the Madrid fans.
The pendulum has swung back in Manchester United’s favour and it helps that Ozil has a good relationship with Jose already.
The Portuguese manager has an abundance of attacking talent but he perhaps can’t help losing out on signing the midfielder for free.
Reports of Mourinho being fed up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s inconsistencies has also seen the rumours grow of a switch happening between both clubs.
Should Mkhitaryan move on from the club already then it would make some space for Mesut’s arrival should it happen.
With Juan Mata also reportedly on the expendable list, Jose may be considering allowing the German complete control of United’s midfield.
