Manchester United’s David de Gea is the Premier League’s best player of 2017 according to pundit Graeme Souness.
De Gea is widely recognised as the best goalkeeper in the world by the United fanbase after seeing him pull of stunning saves one after the other.
Despite rival fans and neutrals seeing his talents as well, the debate for the world’s best is still very much an open case still.
However, Souness believes David is the one who should be considered the best for 2017 simply because player’s in his position don’t receive due praise.
According to 101 Great Goals, Graeme said: “[David De Gea’s] won them two trophies last season [EFL Cup and the Europa League]. It’s very easy for people to overlook how important a good goalkeeper is in a team.
“Goalkeepers win you trophies every bit as much as someone who puts the ball in the back of the net and runs away holding his hand aloft towards their supporters.
“I’m going for De Gea because he’s totally unassuming when he makes these great saves.”
As much as supporters love the Spaniard, the rumours of his departure have never truly quietened with the player himself not helping matters either.
David de Gea has never fully committed to the club publicly and has often left the door slightly open for Real Madrid to come through.
His history with the club’s rivals, Atletico Madrid, doesn’t seem to concern him in his quest for apparent glory.
Madrid’s fruitful campaign last season certainly didn’t aid Manchester United’s bid to keep him with the Spanish club winning just about everything in their sights.
Zinedine Zidane has insisted he’s happy with current goalkeeper Keylor Navas but there’s a sense that the matter is out of his hands.
The club’s president, Florentino Perez, has always had a thirst for top talent and will be keen to finally get his Galactico star.
