Manchester United could be set to pay more than €13m for a 16-year-old Portuguese talent in the January transfer window.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Umaro Embalo for a number of months now, with the Portuguese media extensively covering the story, but changing their tune regularly.
It was initially claimed that Embalo had joined Man United, before Benfica themselves came out to deny those claims. The youngster’s agent has commented on the speculation, confirming discussions have been held with the Premier League side.
Now, A Bola have claimed that Benfica are interested in the idea of selling Embalo in January given the increasing interest in their talent. German side RB Leipzig, well known now as a side giving European talents an opportunity in the Bundesliga in the first team, are also interested.
Benfica will demand around €13/14m for Embalo, suggest A Bola (via Sport Witness). That would be in the January window, which opens in less than a week.
United are clearly interested in Embalo, a quick, direct and skilful forward.
As often with players of his age, Embalo plays right across the front line, though is most comfortable on the right-wing.
He’s scored 15 goals in 18 games for Portugal’s under-17 side, the highest age group he’s represented his country at. He was named top goalscorer (with six goals) at the Montaigu Tournament earlier this year, playing for Portugal.
He was also Player of the Tournament at the 2016 Marveld Tournament, a prestigious club youth competition that United have played in.
Reports in the summer suggested Benfica had rejected bids for Embalo of around £6m.
