Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde desparate for Ander Herrera reunion: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United are in real danger of losing Ander Herrera to Barcelona after Ernesto Valverde sanctioned a move for his former player.

The pair used to work together during their time at Atletico Bilbao and it’s fair to say their paths have taken different turns.

Herrera moved to the Red Devils and after winning the Player of the Year award last season has failed to impress this Premier League campaign.

Despite his inconsistencies, Valverde is willing to sign his former player, perhaps believing he can bring the best out of the Spaniard.

Ander had his contract extended by a year after worries that he may leave United for free this summer but may be Ernesto isn’t willing to wait that long.

According to Sport, the Barcelona manager is desperate to secure a reunion and sees the player slotting straight into the club’s midfield.

The Spanish club’s midfield is currently made up of Paulinho, Andreas Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets among others.

Initial thoughts are that there’s no room for Ander Herrera in that midfield but it could be that Ernesto Valverde is trying to rebuild the club in his own image.

Should they be the case then it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that he’s attempting to sign one of his former players since it’s likely he would trust them more than a few unknowns in the transfer market.

Herrera has previously stated his desire at Old Trafford but after seeing his match time reduced this season, may have his head turned by an offer from Barcelona.
