Juventus have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal for free next summer, according to reports from Italy.
The German hasn’t signed a new deal at the Emirates this season and will be able to leave the club for free in June.
Arsene Wenger has admitted there was a chance Ozil could leave in the summer and Jose Mourinho, according to reports, has expressed interest in reuniting with the playmaker.
But according to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, Juventus will rival Man United in their pursuit of Ozil over the summer transfer window.
Mourinho has reportedly taken note of the widespread interest in signing Ozil for free in June and asked the club’s board in response to launch a big-money bid this month to combat rival clubs.
Barcelona have been named as a potential destination but their capture of Coutinho could be a sign of the Catalan club cooling their interest in Ozil.
Make no mistake: Mourinho needs to prioritise signing Ozil above anything. United have desperately lacked an attacking midfield presence capable of manipulating the ball in tight areas this season and drawing on the German’s almost algorithmic accuracy in possession would take them to another level.
