Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho gives green light to sign Mesut Ozil this month: report

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly given the green light to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil this winter transfer window.

The Red Devils have been linked with the Gunners’ playmaker due to the manager and player’s previous relationship during their time at Real Madrid together.

Mourinho holds the German in high regard and apparently is unwilling to pass up on the chance of signing the attacking midfielder.

Ozil is reportedly frustrated by Arsenal’s lack of competitiveness in recent years and is considering a move to Old Trafford in an attempt to win silverware.

The Portuguese manager is so keen to sign the pass master that he’s pushing to complete the transfer by the end of the month.

According to the Mirror, Jose is willing to bid £35m this transfer window for Mesut even though he can be signed for free this summer.

Jose Mourinho is said to be afraid of losing out on Mesut Ozil to footballing giants PSG or Bayern, who can both make a move to sign him for free now.

Manchester United meanwhile, have to wait until the transfer window is shut before attempting to sign the German for free and so do not wish to leave things up to chance.

The club’s depth in the attacking midfield position is of concern to fans when it comes to signing Ozil, with some sections wondering whether it’s necessary.

Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata are all capable of playing in that role just behind the striker but perhaps Jose sees something in Mesut that he doesn’t in the others.
