Guillem Balague: Jose Mourinho is no longer interested in Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are no longer interested in signing French star and Atletico Madrid favourite Antoine Griezmann according to Guillem Balague.

The Red Devils were reportedly keen on the versatile attacker since last summer when even the player himself admitted a move to Old Trafford was likely.

Although Griezmann opted to show loyalty by remaining at his club when they received a transfer ban, most fans expected the move to be complete when it was lifted.

Madrid are now allowed to do business once more and so a majority of experts believed the chase would continue with United likely to win.

Barcelona have suddenly been linked with Antoine and Balague believes it’s the Spaniard’s who’ll win this race vs Mourinho.

According to the Express, Guillem said: “Griezmann, they sent a message to his people that they’re not interested anymore.

“They weren’t that interested anyway.Let’s ignore the fact Jose Mourinho has spoke to Antoine Griezmann about this. I think Barcelona will sign him.”

Although Barcelona have signed Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for an incredibly large sum, some experts still believe there’s enough in the tank to sign Antoine Griezmann too.

The French international is reported to have a €200m release clause until the summer comes around when it’ll be reduced to €100m.

However, it appears as though the Spanish giants are willing to do whatever it takes to get their man now and beat Manchester United to the punch.

If Guillem’s words can be trusted then Barcelona are only competing against themselves but the question to ask would be why Jose is no longer interested in Griezmann.

Perhaps the signing of Romelu Lukaku in the summer has cooled the need for Antoine and reports also claim that United don’t have the funds this winter to pay such large sums.
