Manchester United gain transfer advantage for Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic?: report

According to reports, Manchester United have had a huge pendulum swing their way in their chase for Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatian star has been on Jose Mourinho‘s radar all season long with the manager looking to strengthen his engine room after some apparent issues.

Michael Carrick, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and youngster Scott McTominay all represent the club’s current options in midfield.

Carrick’s contract runs out in the summer as well as Fellaini’s whilst the Englishman is expected to take up United’s offer to become a coach.

Herrera has fallen from the high standards set last season, perhaps distracted by talk of him moving to the Camp Now himself and so Rakitic is a valid option for the Red Devils.

According to Caught Offside, Philippe Couthino’s presence at the Camp Nou has worried some of the club’s star players, including Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta and Ousmane Dembele.

The Brazilian star was signed from Liverpool for a huge chunk of money and so is unlikely to become a back-up player to Barcelona’s current established players.

Whilst Iniesta is running towards the end of his career, he still wishes for match-time in order to make Spain’s World Cup squad for the upcoming tournament in Russia.

Dembele was a youngster invested in for the club’s long term future and is the most likely player to be dropped for Coutinho.

However, it’s a credit to Philippe’s versatility that three players in three different positions are worried about their positions in the first team but United only care about Rakitic’s worries.
