Manchester United have asked West Bromwich Albion to keep them updated on the situation of Jonny Evans over the January transfer window, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has pin-pointed Evans, who made 198 appearances for Man United, as an ideal option to cover for the injured Eric Bailly during the second half of the season.
The Northern Ireland international’s form dwindled during the latter stages of his time at Old Trafford but his impressive displays at West Brom have reportedly attracted the attention of Arsenal and Manchester City as well.
And according to the Times‘ Paul Hirst, United have maintained their interest in Evans, who wants to leave the Hawthorns this month, and asked the club to keep them informed over his predicament.
True professionals are able to haul themselves out of a seemingly inescapable neurosis on the pitch and Evans in a case in point. The commanding, calculated, headstrong presence at the back for West Brom could hardly be any different to the quivering mess we saw against Stoke City in January 2015.
And with Bailly set to miss out for some time, you sense that Evans – someone who gets the club more than most – could serve as a decent back-up option.
