Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made a rallying call for his side in the transfer market to fight for fantastic opportunities.
Fans believed that the Portuguese boss was referring to Arsenal star Alexi Sanchez as reports continue to claim he’s on the verge of a move to Old Trafford.
The January transfer market is notorious for being a difficult market to navigate as clubs try their best to hold onto players, afraid to lose them half way through the season.
In terms of Sanchez, his contract runs out in the summer and United find themselves in a situation where they could possibly weaken a rival and strengthen themselves for a relatively cheap price.
Mourinho though insists he never sought out to complete transfers in the winter and claims to believe in his current squad regardless of what happens before the window shuts.
According to the Sports Bank, Jose said: “Our squad was built not to have new players in January, we build a squad with this idea, with this philosophy that I share with Mr Woodward and the owners, normally the investment is to be made in the summer.
“But sometimes can happen or can appear on the table, a fantastic opportunity and then you fight for that fantastic opportunity.”
“If it happens, happens, if it doesn’t happen then it doesn’t happen but I like my squad, I like my players, the more time I spend with them this week was also good to be sure of that.
“We like our squad, we believe in our squad, it is just about improving our squad in a balanced way, so if we do something now, it has to be something we believe is the right thing to do for the team, and is something that will stop us to do in the summer.
“If we do something now we don’t need to do in the summer again.”
The former Chelsea manager’s words make for some interesting reading, especially as one considers what he said in the last summer window.
Manchester United’s need for a winger was made public then but never fulfilled and now that Alexis is available it seems to be as though Jose Mourinho is hinting at getting him.
Martial and Rashford in particular are natural strikers and expected to be moved to lead the United frontline some day in the future once they learn their trade.
