Alexis Sanchez is the ideal player for Manchester United because of his mentality as well as his pure footballing talent, manager Jose Mourinho has claimed.
The Chilean forward signed from Arsenal on a four-and-a-half year deal at the club on Monday. Attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined the Gunners in a rare player-swap deal between two major clubs.
Sanchez will be earning huge wages, reportedly, in excess of £350,000-a-week, but Mourinho was delighted to bring the 29-year-old in.
“Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players,” Mourinho told MUTV.
“He will bring his ambition, drive and personality, qualities that make a Manchester United player and a player that makes the team stronger and the supporters proud of their club dimension and prestige.”
Sanchez has been described by many former-United employees (ex-players and coaches) as the perfect player for the club. His mentality is superb, he has an incredible drive and determination for success and Mourinho and United supporters will be hoping that can rub off on the rest of the team.
United have a young squad, with key players like Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku still under the age of 25 with others such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof all being very young, too.
Sanchez will be key to helping a young spine of the squad transform into what fans hope could be a title-winning side.
Mourinho will have been delighted to get one over Manchester City and his rival boss Pep Guardiola who were expected to sign Sanchez either this month or in the summer.
