Juan Mata hails Manchester United supporters following Burnley win

Juan Mata has hailed the travelling Manchester United supporters following the 1-0 win over Burnley last weekend.

Jose Mourinho‘s men endured a languid first half at Turf Moor but Anthony Martial‘s sweet strike, alongside some superb defending from Phil Jones, proved enough to secure the three points.

The visitors were, as always, well followed by a loyal travelling fanbase which included skipper Michael Carrick, who even kicked off one of the chants.

And Mata, writing in his weekly blog, praised his teammates for what was a solid defensive performance and thanked those who travelled to every single away game.

“On Saturday, at Turf Moor, we got three very valuable points against a team that has the ideas very clear about how to play and exploit the skills of their players,” he said.

“They are a very physical team, dangerous in set pieces and crossings from both wings, but we did a fantastic job defensively and, even if it wasn’t our best day in terms of ball circulation, we managed to take one of our chances and Anthony scored a great goal.

“In short, it was a nice win in a game marked by the low temperatures that we’re having in England these days. In those conditions, the big support that we had from our fans is commendable, and our captain Michael was among them.

“It was fantastic to see him there with his son. Thank you so much to those who travel every two weekends to see us in other stadiums, you are amazing.”

This was one of those occasions when the game, whilst important, felt somewhat secondary to something far, far more significant in the form of Alexis Sanchez, whose arrival to the club was essentially guaranteed a few hours before kick-off.

No surprises, then, that conclusions drawn from Turf Moor often included the Chilean’s name. This was a performance lacking in efficient ball circulation and bite in the final third, underlining just how important Sanchez’s arrival to Jose Mourinho‘s attacking vanguard will be.

With the transfer now all but done, we will now wait to see just how Mourinho deploys his new signing, and who misses out as a result.
