The club’s capture of Alexis Sanchez this month has given Mourinho license to explore the market for midfielders capable of replacing Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini once the season comes to an end.
And reports have suggested that Manchester United are leading Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to sign Seri, who came desperately close to joining Barcelona last year and would be open to a Premier League move.
According to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, Man United have pin-pointed the Ivorian – recipient of the Marc-Vivien Foé trophy for the best African player in France last season – as their number one target ahead of the summer.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl have also been weighed up as options. United’s capture of Sanchez has not dampened their desire to bring Mesut Ozil to the club as well.
But with only 18 months left on Seri’s contract and a release clause of around £35m, this feels like a deal United could get over the line with relative ease given the midfielder’s well established preference to move elsewhere sooner rather than later.
