Gary Pallister hails Manchester United for signing Alexis Sanchez, compares him to Eric Cantona

Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has lauded new signing Alexis Sanchez with praise, even comparing him to Old Trafford hero Eric Cantona.

The Chilean international joined from the Gunners with Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving in the opposite direction in the deal of the January transfer window.

No cash was spent by United with some fans calling it an absolute bargain given Sanchez’s proven quality and Mkhitaryan’s inability to get his career going in England.

Henrikh may find better luck with Arsenal but supporters are too busy enjoying Alexis’ ability and what he brings to the current squad.

Pallister is also clearly caught up in the hype of the transfer, comparing the winger to Cantona who was the spark to the Red Devils early domination of the Premier League.

According to the Daily Star, Gary said: “We used to say we had a great formula one car but we didn’t have the driver. Eric then became the driver of that car. I think the same could maybe happen with Sanchez.

“He’s a dynamic player and he’s got an edge to him as well. I like that. I think he could maybe change the way that Man United approach a game.

“I’m just pleased that he’s here. He is going to add a different dimension to Manchester United.”

Despite all the excitement over Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester United, some fans have been concerned on what it means for the club’s other stars.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both play in the former Barcelona man’s preferred position on the left wing and could see their game time diminish.

However, Sanchez’s versatility should prove handy as he has proven to be capable of playing across the club’s attacking front four.

Martial has held onto the left wing position for some time now and the attacking midfield spot has essentially turned into Jesse Lingard‘s position.

With Romelu Lukaku undoubtedly the club’s first choice striker, this leaves Alexis with the right wing as his most likely position and area to excel in.
