Manchester United could still complete another signing before the January transfer window shuts on Wednesday night, according to reports.
The club expressed early interest in Lucas Moura, who has gone to Tottenham Hotspur instead, before focusing their efforts on securing the services of Alexis Sanchez for the price of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Sanchez’s arrival came as a surprise given that Manchester City were on the verge of signing him and Jose Mourinho was focused on landing a central midfielder.
But according to Duncan Castles, the club remains on the lookout for any opportunities to add to their midfield with Marouane Fellaini‘s future still hanging in the balance and Michael Carrick set to retire in the summer.
Man United only managed to complete the deal for Sanchez because, as Mourinho described it, he was presented with a “fantastic opportunity” when it seemed as if the Chilean was bound for the Ethiad.
Thankfully, however, one party persisted with picking the oranges at the top of the tree while the other, um, went and signed Aymeric Laporte for £57m.
And with midfield still a major priority for Mourinho, you cannot rule out the possibility of Mourinho, should the right fruit present itself again, making a late charge to add to his squad.
