Romelu Lukaku reveals reason for why he joined Manchester United

Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku has revealed just why he joined the club when at times it seemed he was so close to a move to Chelsea instead during last summer’s famous ordeal.

The goalscoring striker has endured heavy amounts of criticism since joining the team but whatever people say about him, he’s close to hitting the 20 goal target for the season.

With it only being February, there’s plenty of time for Lukaku to end the season with 30 goals and a handful of assists- more than what fans would’ve hoped for.

Supporters have Jose Mourinho to thank for why the Belgian chose United instead of the Blues who had to resort to signing Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

The Portuguese manager seems to have played a huge role in the transfer and it’s not the first time a player has admitted that it was the boss who lured them into the club.

According to the Daily Star, Romelu said to ESPN Brasil: “Because before I had a dream of playing for the manager, Jose Mourinho. When I was little, at age of 11, I was at Chelsea.

“I was talking to my mum and dad that I wanted to play for him, because I really like his personality as a manager. He won many titles for Porto and Chelsea and now I’m very happy that I work with him.

“Because he’s a manager who knows what he needs to do to win the match and with him I learn a lot.”

Much was man of Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s return to fitness and whether he would overtake Romelu Lukaku as the club’s first choice striker.

Things didn’t pan out that way and instead the Swede suffered a setback, leaving the former Everton man to continue leading the line for Manchester United.

The truth is that it was unlikely that Ibrahimovic would’ve ever seriously dismantled Lukaku but he certainly would’ve given Mourinho more choices in attack.

More importantly, he would’ve given the former Real Madrid manager an opportunity to rest the 24 year old, something that is desperately needed of late.

Romelu isn’t exactly in horrible form but it would be good to sit him on the bench occasionally so he’s more fresh for more important fixtures.
