Manchester United fan favourite Patrice Evra joins West Ham United until the end of the season

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has joined West Ham United on a deal until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Frenchman claimed ten major honours at Old Trafford, including five Premier League titles, before leaving for Juventus in 2014 having cemented himself as a fan favourite.

He encountered further success in Italy, winning Serie A twice, but move to Marseille in 2016 ended in gloomy fashion, with the Frenchman forced out of the club after lashing out at a supporter.

And Evra, following some time away from the game, has decided to jump back in at the deep end by moving to East London.

Mr I Love This Game is back and the world will be better off for it. That said, if Evra is trying to prove to us that his contagious happiness doesn’t fade even at the very worst of times, he has certainly chosen the right place by reuniting with David Moyes, whose authority he supposedly questioned over the 2013/14 season.

It will not be easy, but his decision to rejoin the Premier League rather than play in the United States or Middle East shows that beneath the ebullience and joy lies a man with the Ferguson ethic still very much hardwired into his system.
