Belgian manager Roberto Martinez has backed Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku to improve further than he already has this season.
The striker moved to Old Trafford from Everton in the summer and has 21 goals to his name across all competitions so far.
Despite this, Lukaku has come in for a huge amount of criticism from pundits and even some fans but his international manager has given him words of praise.
United supporters were initially excited to sign the Belgian due to his clinical finishing nature and it would be unfair to say that hasn’t been the case.
Martinez bought Romelu when he was the manager of the Toffees and has seen him develop almost every step of the way but believes there’s even more to the forward.
According to Football 365, Roberto said on Match of the Day: “Everyone looks at Romelu Lukaku and forgets that he’s 24. He’s already had two record transfers to Everton and then to Manchester United.
“I’ve seen a big change in his maturity. He’s got a little bit of everything. As a No 9 sometimes you play against them and they are a little bit predictable.
“He’s good with his back to goal, he’s getting stronger. With the space he’s unstoppable because he’s got that strength and power but his outstanding quality is his finishing.
“You get a good chance and he will score. He’s still a young player and is someone that can develop.”
Romelu Lukaku arrived at Manchester United with a reputation for being a player with a loose touch, predictable movement and a poor record vs the bigger team.
While the Red Devils witnessed that themselves, they’ve also seen vast improvements from the Belgian man in almost all his attributes.
Lukaku’s hold up play has gotten better tenfold as fans could tell particularly from his last performance vs Huddersfield in the FA Cup.
In turn his first touch has been silkier and he no longer makes the same predictable run to the far post as he’d gotten used to at Everton.
The main thing left to him to prove is his record vs the top clubs which actually hasn’t been directly his fault this season.
Manchester United’s tactics vs rivals have been questionable to say the least but of course Romelu can still develop even further as Roberto Martinez says.
