Manchester United stepping up their interest in Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri – report

Manchester United have ramped up their interest in Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho has expressed a desire to add reinforcements in midfield ahead of Michael Carrick‘s retirement and Marouane Fellaini‘s likely departure.

And Seri, having come close to joining Barcelona last summer, has emerged as one of Man United’s main targets ahead of the transfer window.

According to the Mirror‘s David McDonnell, Paul Pogba‘s recent lapse in form has prompted United to reestablish their interest in the Ivorian midfielder.

Of course, the notion that Pogba is now on his way out after a handful of poor performances is the kind of hyperbolic drivel you’d expect from the Mirror. Any news story that can be framed with Pogba’s demise in mind will always make headlines, after all.

That said, the prospect of putting the pair together as part of a midfield three, with Nemanja Matic behind them, would push United in the direction supporters have frustratedly wanted them to go.

The difference in performance against Sevilla would have been manifold if Pogba had somebody else in midfield willing to move the ball forward, to take risks with the ball, and supporters will be desperate to see Mourinho sign someone capable of doing just that once the window opens.
