Paul Scholes feels it will be ‘difficult’ for Manchester United to keep David de Gea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes feels the club will have a tough time in their efforts to keep ahold of David de Gea amid Real Madrid’s interest.

The Spanish giants have reignited their fascination with the world class goalkeeper as they attempt to put behind themselves a poor season by their standards.

United managed to initially cling to De Gea when Madrid first came calling, mostly thanks to a faulty fax machine that fans still hail to this day.

The Spaniard proved himself to be a top professional by putting all the rumours behind himself, renewing his contract and continuing to perform to the highest level.

It’s exactly his recent performances that have seen him linked with the La Liga club once more and Scholes believes it has to be the Red Devils’ priority to keep him at the club for as long as possible.

According to Goal, Paul said: “It has to be, but I think it will be difficult to do that if Real Madrid want him. He’s obviously showing he’s the best goalkeeper in the world and if Madrid want him you can understand David wanting to go there, as much as we don’t want him to.

“We can understand he’s from Madrid and would be playing for a team that would be challenging for the Champions League season after season.”

David has slowly started to win over even neutral footballer lovers as it becomes more and more difficult to disprove his status as the best keeper in the world.

Jose Mourinho is well aware of his player’s talent and publicly stated his desire to keep ahold of the former Atletico Madrid man.

The Portuguese manager was discussing the club’s transfer policy and claimed that if the club are trying to be the best in the world then they must keep ahold of their best players, including David de Gea.

It was a rare confident statement from Mourinho which seems to suggest that the 27 year old is on the brink of renewing his contract.

Recent reports have mirrored those claims but nothing official has come out from Manchester United but fans remain hopeful.
