Lazio midfielder and reported Manchester United target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is now better than Paul Pogba, according to the player’s own agent.
Unsurprisingly, Mateja Kezman believes his client is of higher quality than Man United’s current star man Pogba.
Milinkovic-Savic could become the second midfielder to sign for Jose Mourinho from Serie A, after Pogba returned to Old Trafford from Juventus for a then-world record fee of £89m. That sum has quickly been overshadowed by a string of huge deals, but could be matched if the Reds focus their attention on Milinkovic-Savic.
United aren’t the only club to be consistently linked to the Serbian international, who celebrated his 23rd birthday in the last week, with fellow Premier League title challengers and rivals Chelsea and Manchester City linked as well as European giants FC Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
“When Sergej came to Italy, he was compared with Pogba, because at that moment it was probably the easiest comparison to make in terms of characteristics,” Kezman told Mozzart Sport.
“I do really respect Pogba, let’s be clear, and other linkers who can run and work for the team, but I think now Sergej has different and better quality than Pogba.
“Over the last six months, he has made enormous progress at Lazio. If he retains his health, he can become the most complete player on the planet.”
Kezman clearly didn’t hold back in his praise for his client with the hard sell on ahead of the summer transfer window which could see the 23-year-old earn a huge move in European football.
Although his agent has gone vastly over the top in his comments on Milinkovic-Savic, he has been impressing considerably in Serie A this season and it’s no surprise he is attracting such great interest.
A move for the Serb would likely see United have to spend in excess of £90m, but Mourinho may consider that worth it for a payer who could slot in alongside Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
“He has remarkable attributes and you’ll not find another player in the world with that power, muscular structure and height combined with technique and tactical awareness,” Kezman continued. “He has the touch of a Brazilian and some of the things he does remind me of Zinedine Zidane.
“Milinkovic-Savic is the most effective midfielder in Europe right now, as he can score goals in a variety of ways and has a good head on his shoulders. I’ve played with Arjen Robben, Frank Lampard and some of the best in Europe and I think Sergej can surpass them if he keeps this up.
“He could soon be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or.”
United chiefs are reportedly now resigned to losing Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini and thus signings will be needed in the summer. Milinkovic-Savic would fit the type of player Mourinho needs to complete a title-winning midfield three.
