Steve Nicol believes Willian to Manchester United transfer is unlikely to happen

Steve Nicol doesn’t think Chelsea star Willian is likely to move to Manchester United as the rumours begin to intensify.

It’s only March but transfer rumours have already started to spring up ahead of what will surely be an important summer transfer window for Jose Mourinho.

United’s inability to challenge fierce rivals and league leaders Manchester City means that almost certainly there’ll be plenty of changes ahead of next season.

The Portuguese boss has already targeted several areas on the pitch, namely central midfield and the defence for areas that need investment.

Nicol though believes the Brazilian is unlikely to move to the Red Devils due to another reason but does see him leaving the club.

According to the Sport Review, Steve said to ESPN: “He [Willian] could possibly be on his way, I am not sure it will be to Manchester United.

“I just do not see Chelsea wanting to give United another great player which is what happened with [Nemanja] Matic. If Willian does leave it will not be to United. However, I think he will leave.”

Jose’s public statement that he does not wish to add to his attacking talents seems to suggest this move is unlikely to happen anyways.

However, the former Chelsea manager certainly loves Willian and a potential move could be seen to be too tempting such as the Alexis Sanchez one.

At least with the Chilean though, Jose Mourinho clearly targeted a need for a winger whereas where the Blues man would fit in at an overstocked department is yet to be seen.

It’s unlikely the versatile winger would be signed unless Manchester United sell one of their own wide men but even that seems to be far fetched.

Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are the club’s current options with no one truly appearing disposable.
