Manchester United star Ashley Young has opened up on his plans for his future as reports continue to swirl on whether or not he will remain at the club beyond the current season.
The Englishman’s contract runs out at the end of the current Premier League campaign but their have been reports that Jose Mourinho has triggered a one year extension.
However, despite those reports, the Portuguese manager is said to still be wishing to invest in his defence and potentially move on Young.
The former Aston Villa man though is determined to end his career on his own terms and stated his desire to do so at Old Trafford.
According to the Republik of Mancunia, Ashley said: “It’s reported every year that I am about to leave but I’ve always wanted to be here. And for as long as I can, I’d like to finish my career at United. I’ve got that mentality to keep going and change people’s minds.
“I know how to play the game, I’ve got a football brain, and feel as fit and healthy as I did when I was younger. I’d be able to give the 23-year-old me a race.”
Ashley Young has spent most of the season alternating between the right-back and left-back spots, initially playing as a ‘fill-in’ player but eventually winning a place in the starting XI.
His performances have apparently been so good that despite Luke Shaw‘s reemergence as a contender for the left-back spot, Jose still relies on the more experienced man in crucial clashes.
Young has certainly been in the game longer but fans have still called for the former Southampton man to be given the game time he deserves in order to truly allow him to fulfil his potential.
Shaw is seen to be the club’s future left-back in what they hope is a decade or more, begging the question on whether Ashley has a future beyond the current season.
