Manchester United’s Chris Smalling fired up for clash vs Liverpool at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s Chris Smalling appears to be fired up for the club’s clash with fierce rivals Liverpool who come to Old Trafford for the fixture.

Jose Mourinho‘s men face the Reds in their next match after completing two comeback matches back to back vs Chelsea and Crystal Palace respectively.

Both matches were full of drama but the Palace result was arguably more difficult to secure three points from as well as the manner in which it was done so.

Against the Blues it was Romelu Lukaku who scored the equaliser just before half time while Jesse Lingard scored the winner after the break.

Against Roy Hodgson’s men though United were 2-0 down but turned it all around thanks to Smalling, Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in the final moments of the game.

According to the club’s official website, Chris said to MUTV: “You could see the emotions when we were celebrating with the fans right at the end. It’s been a while since there was a comeback like that, but it was a great feeling. I think the fans deserve that.

“I think it tees it up perfectly [for the Liverpool game] by going above them again. We’ve got three big home games to come in three different competitions. When we’re playing at Old Trafford, everything is possible.

“It’s a special fixture [against Liverpool]. After tonight, we turn our attentions to that game and we’ll be waiting to welcome them to Old Trafford with smiles on our faces.”

Despite the Englishman’s performance last night, many fans still have mixed feelings towards him and believe he can’t remain at the club.

Supporters arguing for him to leave point towards his error proneness as a reason the Red Devils can no longer rely on him.

Chris Smalling‘s only good season at the club has arguably come under Louis Van Gaal‘s management and he’s yet to rediscover the same type of solidity or form.

Plenty of fans have lost their patience with the former Fulham man and believe it’s time for the club to build their defence around other players.

Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have been brought in by Mourinho for this exact reason but the pair are yet to feature together consistently.
