Reported Manchester United target Jorginho has the ability to make it in the Premier League, according to his agent.
The Napoli midfielder was linked with the Reds in the January transfer window, but any move was incredibly unrealistic mid-season. However, should Man United fail to secure their main target of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, a rival of Jorginho who plays for Lazio and could cost up to £100m, they’ll look to Jorginho.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who suggest Jorginho is the back-up target for manager Jose Mourinho, who is clearly targeting the final piece of his three-man midfield puzzle. Paul Pogba signed in July 2016 for a then-world record transfer fee of £89m, while Nemanja Matic joined him from Chelsea last summer for around £40m.
Jorginho could slot into the third slot on the right side of that trio and allow Pogba more freedom in a 4-3-3 formation. His agent certainly thinks that’s a possibility.
“I follow the Premier League. I’m sure Jorginho has the characteristics to play there,” agent Joao Santos said.
“He runs more than 13km every game and he has a great technique.”
Though there is clear interest from some top European sides, there’s no burning desire for Jorginho to leave Naples for bigger things yet.
The 26-year-old is enjoying life at Napoli, who are challenging for the Serie A title this season, and will consider any contract renewal offers that come from the club.
At this stage, no transfer offers have come in from anyone, including United.
“I don’t have a figure in my mind, the price is set by the president,” Santos continued.
“We’re waiting for May. We hope Napoli can win the league. Then if Napoli wants to renew the contract, we can talk about it.
“The same if they want to sell Jorginho. There are no official and concrete proposals for him from UK.
“I don’t know if [Napoli chairman, Aurelio] De Laurentiis will call me at the end of the season to extend his contract. I suppose that [he will].
“We are available to deal with [the club]. He has become Neapolitan and is in a family. He is a top-level player.”
