Dietmar Hamann has claimed rather boldly that Manchester United’s latest signing Alexis Sanchez might not be the same player he was at Arsenal.
The Chilean international completed his transfer during January and has yet to truly set the world alight with his new team.
Some fans have started to grow concerned but most have put it down to Sanchez’s need to adapt to his new surroundings and pressures.
While he hasn’t been completely poor, the versatile attacker has been rather underwhelming and hasn’t brought the star quality most would’ve expected of him.
Hamann has casted doubts over Alexis’ ability, questioning whether he’s even the same player that he was with the Gunners despite just leaving a little over a month ago.
According to the Mirror, Dietmar said: “I’m not sure whether he has got the impact he had got three years ago. I think he’s in his late twenties now, he is a very physical player.
“You have to see how long he can play at a very good level or the top level. And I’m just not sure whether he is the same player that he was when he first came to Arsenal.”
Much of Alexis Sanchez’s struggles have to do with him being played in a bunch of different positions with Jose Mourinho not truly settling the player.
It appears as though the Portuguese manager is still attempting to figure out how to get the best out of the former Barcelona star.
Most fans expected Sanchez to play on the right wing given how Anthony Martial was performing before his arrival to Old Trafford.
However, the 29 year old has played on both flanks, as a number ten and on occasion during matches he’s played as a striker.
United favourite Gary Neville suggested that Alexis is simply dropping too deep and isn’t playing in the positions he’s most threatening in, calling for him to be played on the left wing.
