Paul Pogba will face a fitness test on Saturday after pulling up in training on Friday ahead of Manchester United’s meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman has not been free of injury since rejoining the club: he missed two months of the campaign with a hamstring injury – the same knock he suffered last season against FC Rostov – and was in clear physical discomfort during Man United’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United last month.
But following a tense February marred by talk of a potential rift between him and Jose Mourinho, the 24-year-old has played an important role in recent wins over Chelsea and Crystal Palace with combative displays in the middle, restoring a sense of feel good factor at United in the process.
However, according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, Pogba is a doubt for the crucial clash with Liverpool after being unable to finish training on Friday.
He was not completely ruled out when assessed by medical staff and there is a chance he could still play against Jurgen Klopp’s side. Supporters will just be praying overnight that their star midfielder recovers from any strain he suffered in training and takes to the pitch on Saturday lunchtime with no lingering physical demons hampering him.
