Nemanja Matic labels match against Sevilla as the most important game of the season

Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has claimed the match against Sevilla could be the club’s most important game of the season.

Jose Mourinho‘s men take on the Spanish side at Old Trafford on Tuesday for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A win would see them advance into the quarter finals which is a decent target to aim for in United’s first season back in Europe’s elite competition.

Matic did not hold back when discussing taking on the La Liga side who’ll certainly prove to be difficult opponents, especially after the goalless draw in the first leg.

The Red Devils must avoid a goalscoring draw, otherwise they would be knocked out on the away goals rule and the Serbian recognises the importance of advancing to the next stage.

According to the Sports Bank, Nemanja said: “Very important for our confidence to win this sort of game [Liverpool]. We won against Chelsea and of course [on Saturday], so confidence will be on a high level, for sure.

“We have to see what we did well to continue like this. We have to know where we made mistakes to improve. The next game is very important for us, maybe the most important game of the season.

“We have to beat Sevilla to go through, so we give our best.”

Nemanja has already proven himself to be an inspiring buy after Mourinho decided to invest in him just last summer.

It hasn’t taken long at all for the midfielder to slot into the team’s starting XI and he’s definitely added quality too.

Manchester United fans could hardly believe that Chelsea would sell one of their key players to a direct rival and were thanking their lucky stars that the transfer was completed.

With Michael Carrick suffering from unfortunate injuries this season and only recently returning to the first team, Nemanja Matic has represented a bargain buy by all definitions of the word.

The two senior players add experience to United’s relatively young side as Jose attempts to build a title winning team.
