Charlie Nicholas has blamed Alexis Sanchez for Manchester United’s recent poor performances.
The Reds were an embarrassment in their approach to facing La Liga side Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League and were duly knocked out on Tuesday night.
Sanchez was poor, alongside almost all of his teammates. The Chilean hasn’t made a positive impact on the side since arriving in a straight player-swap deal in January, a transfer that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way to sign for Arsenal.
Nicholas believes Man United have lost their balance and fluidity due to Sanchez’s inclusion in the team.
“At the start of the season, Manchester United had a fluency to them,” Nicholas said, referencing a fantastic spell at the beginning of the campaign that saw Jose Mourinho’s side hitting four goals in a game regularly and winning.
The Sky Sports pundit suggested that Mourinho must drop Sanchez to regain fluency in the United side.
“Sanchez, at the moment, does not deserve to be in the team,” Nicholas asserted.
“He looks as though he is trying hard, but this is Manchester United and you’ve got to deliver on a game-by-game basis and he is not. He is giving the ball away too often.”
Many United fans would agree with Nicholas that Sanchez doesn’t deserve his place in the side.
Not only that, but even if Sanchez keeps his starting spot, it is incredibly frustrating to see an in-form Rashford moved to accommodate Sanchez when the 29-year-old isn’t playing at a high level.
