Jose Mourinho planning summer overhaul that could see 10 senior Manchester United players leave – report

Luke Shaw looks set to lead a mass exodus in the summer as Jose Mourinho plans to continue his overhaul of personnel at Manchester United in the summer, with up to ten players potentially leaving the club, according to reports.

The 22-year-old will leave Old Trafford in the summer after growing exasperated at Mourinho’s latest bout of public criticism towards him following Man United’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick will leave the club in the summer, while Marouane Fellaini – whose contract expires in June – looks to be on his way out as well.

And according to the Mirror‘s David McDonnell, the likes of Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian will follow Shaw in the summer, while Mourinho has also canvassed the idea of dispensing with Ander Herrera, Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial to Ed Woodward in a recent meeting.

There is something strange about the fact that this story has come out now, following a week which has seen Mourinho on an almost kamikaze-esque warpath, rather than, say, before the Liverpool game. Sometimes reports like these, especially from the Mirror, come out at remarkably fitting times.

Moreover, the very logistics of such an overhaul are simply too crazy. Mourinho certainly wants to evolve this squad but moving along ten players in a World Cup year, with the transfer window ending before the 2018/19 season begins, simply isn’t feasible – especially when you consider that United would be unwilling to sell before buying.
