The Chilean started the fixture and justified his manager’s decision by grabbing his side’s second goal in the 2-0 win.
The first was scored by none other than Romelu Lukaku but it was Sanchez’s goal that allowed United to cruise through the rest of the match.
Although the former Barcelona star is the more talented or developed player, many were expecting to see Rashford given an opportunity to start due to the former’s recent poor form.
Mourinho though stuck by his new signing and was repaid in full by a lively Alexis who caused Swansea all kinds of trouble.
According to Sport Bible, Jose said: “Alexis is different to Marcus (Rashford) because Marcus needs more space. Alexis, in small spaces, can manipulate the ball better and is trying his best to be one against one (with opposition defenders). So the decisions are based on that.”
Marcus was allowed to make his mark on the match as he came on as a substitute but the type of match he joined was a far different one than the one that started with Alexis Sanchez.
The Englishman was part of the Red Devils’ side that had to hold on to the result due to Swansea’s lively second half performance.
The away side waited until the second half before showing up for the match and so it didn’t work in Marcus Rashford‘s favour.
Either way the result put Manchester United back into second place with a game in hand over third placed Liverpool who are also two points behind.
The win was much needed with Jose Mourinho‘s men set to face Manchester City next and they certainly will need an in form Sanchez for that match as well.
