Manchester United’s Juan Mata has claimed that him and his teammates are looking forward to playing against Manchester City.
Some supporters are not excited ahead of the fixture due to what it could potentially mean for Pep Guardiola’s players.
City can win the title should they beat United in front of their own fans at the Etihad and United fans can’t think of anything worse.
A win is a must from Jose Mourinho and not just to close the gap on the club’s fierce rivals but to also keep the team’s below them from catching up.
A second placed finish is pretty much a demand at this point with anything less set to be considered a failure for the Red Devils but Mata is optimistic ahead of the derby.
According to the club’s official website, Juan wrote on his personal blog: ” This week, we will keep working on a game that many people are already talking about. Of course, I mean the derby against City.
“This game doesn’t come in an ideal situation, for there’s quite a gap of points between the two of us, but we all know that it’s a special game.
“We’re looking forward to playing against them and having a good performance. That’s what our fans deserve.”
The Spaniard is in line to start the match after his good display vs Swansea on Saturday but reports have surfaced they he could be dropped for tactical reasons.
Mourinho reportedly wishes to use a three man midfield to contain the Sky Blues and hit them on the counterattack with the pace in his attackers.
Unfortunately speed is one of the areas in Juan Mata‘s game that he lacks and while his creativity can unlock deep defences, it won’t necessarily be needed against the Citizens.
