Ian Wright: Manchester United squad still has more to give to Jose Mourinho

by Marwan Harraz

Former Arsenal man Ian Wright has seemingly suggested that Jose Mourinho can still get more out of the current Manchester United squad.

The Portuguese manager has often been accused this season of not getting the best out of his star studded group of players.

With the likes of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, Anthony Martial and David de Gea many expected United to challenge for the title.

Instead, Mourinho’s men, despite being in second place, are currently sixteen points away from fierce rivals and league leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils started the season brightly but soon faded off and Wright believes there’s still more to come from the current crop of players.

According to the Sport Review, Ian said to BBC Radio 5 Live: “Man United are in second place but I think the Man United players have another 40 per cent in them.”

For all their quality, Manchester United have been founded lacking in some areas as well as still struggling with some attitude or mentality problems.

Mostly the defence has been the area that’s needed addressing for a few seasons now and while Jose has attempted to do so by signing Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, it hasn’t proven enough.

The Ivorian has struggled with injuries while the Swede has clearly needed some time to adjust to his new surroundings this season.

Meanwhile, United still rely on two ageing former wingers as their full-backs in the shape of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

The need to address the lack of quality or depth has led to Jose Mourinho reportedly planning a complete overhaul in his defence.
