Manchester United favourite Andy Cole has praised Romelu Lukaku for his exploits in front of goal in his first season at the club.
The Belgian has been in sensational form of late and his overall tally for the season currently reads at over twenty goals scored.
With Lukaku looking set to finish his first season at United with over thirty goals scored across all competitions, it’s fair to say he’s done better than expected.
Jose Mourinho certainly invested a lot of money into the former Everton striker but it’s because of how important he was always going to be to the squad.
Cole believes that Romelu has had an outstanding season, particularly since he’s had less rest than usual and has been a lone striker for the majority of games.
According to the club’s official website, Andy said: “Lukaku has had a very good season. I think it has probably been a lot tougher than he would have thought and now he appreciates that you can’t have a weekend off at Manchester United, which he could have done at his previous clubs Everton and West Bromwich Albion.
“Here, you can’t afford to do that. But he has played the majority of games and that says a lot about him. He has not been injured and, for his first season, I think he has been top drawer.”
Romelu Lukaku’s feat is even more impressive when taken into consideration how he leads the line for Manchester United by himself.
It’s never easy for a lone striker, particularly when the team plays on the counter-attack and hasn’t created enough chances for said striker either.
United have the worst record in creating chances out of the top six according to Squakwa which currently stands at 310 chances created in the Premier League.
Keep in mind that not all of these single-handedly fall for Lukaku and not all of them are clear-cut chances that he should convert.
In comparison, fierce rivals Liverpool have created the most with 415 chances to their name but they’ve only scored 75 goals to the Red Devils 60.
