Manchester United icon Phil Neville has claimed that he doesn’t see a better goalkeeper in the world than David de Gea at the moment and believes he’s ‘up there’ with the likes of Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Spaniard has been in stellar form for his club once more this season and he’s been tipped to win the player of the year award.
Having been voted in the PFA team of the year as well, De Gea is getting more and more recognition of late for his talents.
United fans always knew they had a top keeper on their hands but even neutrals and rivals are admitting his talent with Neville believing his consistency puts him up there with Sir Alex Ferguson‘s top signings.
David’s performances this Premier League campaign has once more seen him linked with Real Madrid but with Jose Mourinho building a top team he could yet again remain.
According to the Express, Phil said on BBC One: “He’s [De Gea] saved United nine-12 points a season in terms of his performances. It’s the consistency of his performances, he makes every save feel really easy.
“I don’t see a better keeper in world football at this moment in time. It’s the composure that he shows on the saves, he doesn’t get overly carried away with every save.
“He keeps parrying them out, he’s got strong wrists, he wins Manchester United football games. I look back at the signings Alex Ferguson made, I just wonder if he’s the best one he ever made.
“If you think of the great signings; Cantona, Van Persie, Ronaldo, he’s up there with them.”
Phil Neville’s compliments are certainly the highest form of praise for David de Gea, particularly since he’s played with a few club legends himself.
Mourinho’s biggest task this summer would be to once more hold off Madrid on their attempts to sign the keeper though the rumours aren’t as strong as they once were.
