Jose Mourinho: Marouane Fellaini is an important player for Manchester United

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that Marouane Fellaini is important for the club and reiterated that he hopes the player will stay.

The Belgian international’s contract runs out this summer and there’s an understanding that the player and manager both hope he can stay.

However, Fellaini is taking advantage of being in a powerful position in terms of contract negotiations and is likely holding out for a pay rise.

Mourinho hasn’t hidden his evaluation of his player and the timing of the bizarre situation couldn’t have been worse considering what’s coming up for United.

The FA Cup final is only a couple weeks away now and the squad are supposed to be focussed on heading into their clash with Chelsea in fine form.

Unfortunately, the Red Devils are now embroiled in a messy situation and questions do have to be asked about why the hierarchy at the club allowed it to reach this stage.

While understandable, it’s still upsetting to see Marouane hold the club hostage and it’s also weird how Jose is sweating so much over a useful but average player.

Either way, the hope is the situation can be sorted out quickly so it doesn’t prove to be a distraction with Manchester United set to take on Brighton later this evening.
