Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that his assistant Rui Faria is a good fit for the Arsenal job and insisted he would bless the move should it happen.
The pair have worked together for several years and are each other’s most trusted colleagues, setting off hand in hand for all the jobs experienced so far.
Mourinho is aware of the rumours that have linked Faria as a surprise candidate to take over from Arsene Wenger when he steps down this summer.
The Portuguese assistant doesn’t have any real managerial experience but reports claim he’s got a shot at the Emirates job.
Though the former Real Madrid manager would be losing his most trusted ally, he insists he would be happy to help out a friend and would not block the move.
According to NST, Jose said: “You ask me if I think it would be a good fit [for Arsenal job] and I say ‘yes’. And I say it because he is more than my assistant, he is my friend.
“If my friend has the possibility one day of a big job, I would help him to pack and to carry the bags and to wish him luck.
“So if one day that is going to happen, the first one to be happy would probably be myself because I met him when he was a kid in his university and we were together for 18 years.”
It would be a shame to see Rui leave given how he’s a crucial part of the backroom staff at United and as mentioned previously has worked with Jose Mourinho throughout his career.
Whether there’s any truth to the rumours is yet to be seen but they could prove to be an unnecessary, untimely distraction for everyone at Old Trafford.
