The Portuguese manager has offered the Englishman a chance to join his backroom staff and fans are pleased to see that the club will hold onto one of their beloved players.
Carrick is set to retire at the end of the current campaign but thankfully won’t be leaving United entirely though his presence on the pitch will be sorely missed.
Mourinho explained that not only did he want to hold onto the midfielder but the club wished to as well and there’s hopes it will happen to other stars too.
Michael’s transition will hopefully be a smooth one though there’s already positive signs with Paul Pogba revealing it was the veteran’s advice that allowed him to put in a match winning performance vs Manchester City.
According to the Mirror, Jose said: “In this case it’s not about me, it’s about the club. The club had a great many years from him playing football. Now, when his body says ‘It’s enough’, the club and myself want to keep the man.
“He has qualities that we believe can make him a good coach, and there are many ways to do the bridge between being a player and on the coaching staff. There are many ways to do it.
“Some guys prefer to have a couple of years to study or go to youth football. In this case, we decided he could change shirts, dressing-rooms and offices, and to stop being a player and become an assistant.
“I give my assistants very good conditions for their evolution and I think Michael can be very positive for us.”
The former Real Madrid man clearly rates the former Tottenham man and who knows how far that relationship will go but there’s certainly hope it will be a positive one.
