Mark Lawrenson predicts Man United to beat Watford in Premier League finale

by Alex Turk

Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Manchester United will defeat Watford 2-0 at Old Trafford as the Premier League season draws to a close on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho is expected to field out a rotated side after he saw United confirm a second place finish at the London Stadium on Thursday night, where they put on a dull 0-0 stalemate against West Ham United.

Mourinho has already revealed that quartet Sergio Romero, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Michael Carrick will start the game, with the latter making his Old Trafford swansong after 11 years.

Writing in his BBC column, Lawrenson said: “It’s been a bit of a strange season for Manchester United, but they are going to finish second and they could win the FA Cup too.

“But Jose Mourinho’s playing style is clearly a major problem for some United fans, and the other big issue is that they don’t look like they are going to be anywhere near Manchester City again next season either.”

Despite a slightly negative review of United’s season, Lawrenson backed them to complete a routine win this weekend. He continued:: “I am expecting United to win and pass the 80-point mark, which has been enough to win the title in four seasons during the Premier League era, but they never got close to City this year.”

The match will be Watford’s last of the 2017-18 campaign, while United visit Wembley Stadium next weekend to clash with Chelsea in the 2018 FA Cup Final.
