Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Marcus Rashford react to receiving World Cup call-up

Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Marcus Rashford have all voiced their delight on social media after being handed places in Gareth Southgate’s 23 man squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Gareth Southgate’s men will face Belgium, Tunisia and Panama in the group stages before an inevitable second round defeat to Colombia.

Phil Jones, who was part of the squad which travelled to Brazil in 2014, has also been included in the squad, while Chris Smalling missed out.

Lingard, Young and Rashford, on the other hand, took to social media to express their enthusiasm at the prospect of going to their first World Cup.

And yes, Lingard really did call it Lingland. The more I think about it, the more I think this should be made law. Fantastic stuff as always.

Young adopted a more nostalgic approach, harking back to the days when he wore the England strip as a dreaming youngster.

And Rashford has sent a heartwarming message to his mum, who, like so many do around the country, stood in the Manchester sleet and rain to watch him progress as a youngster. A box seat as her son burns past Germany defenders in Moscow will be a significant upgrade for sure.
