Alex Sandro’s move to Manchester United likely to prompt Anthony Martial exit – report

Manchester United’s keen interest in signing Alex Sandro from Juventus in the summer could pave the way for Anthony Martial heading in the other direction, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho‘s continued distrust of Luke Shaw and Ashley Young‘s age – he turns 33 over the summer – has made the acquisition of a new left-back somewhat necessary.

And the 55-year-old has pinpointed Sandro as his main target, with reports in Italy suggesting that a deal could be done in a matter of days.

But according to M.E.N‘s Samuel Luckhurst, the Serie A champions, who have been frontrunners to prize Martial away from Old Trafford in the summer, have used negotiations over Sandro as an opportunity to step up their interest in the French winger.

A direct swap deal is unlikely, despite the two players being of similar worth in the market, but the Old Lady will no doubt want to frame negotiations in a way where Sandro’s departure acts as a makeweight for a deal to sign Martial.

United are willing to open talks with Martial over a new contract but the 22-year-old, ostracised from the starting XI since the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez, is likely to demand assurances of more playing time under Mourinho before committing his future to Old Trafford.
