Louis Saha: Anthony Martial should fight for his Manchester United place

Former Manchester United star Louis Saha has passed on his words of wisdom to Anthony Martial, insisting fighting for a spot in the first team is the only way to go.

The Frenchman has long been linked with a move elsewhere with even Premier League clubs Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal said to be interested in him.

Martial has struggled to impress Jose Mourinho this season, so much so that some sections of the media are reporting he could be set to leave.

The former AS Monaco man is wanted foreign clubs as well such as Juventus but the hopes are he doesn’t leave the club.

Saha believes a lack of match time is all a part of the process of being at a top club like United.

According to Sportskeeda, Louis said to Omnisport: “[Not being in the team] is part of the process at a big club – the competition is there.

“We all want to be in the starting line-up at our club in order to play for the national team. It’s difficult, it’s not easy.

“Sometimes we need to challenge ourselves by saying, ‘If I’m not in the line-up, if something is off, then I need to work on it’.

“The goal is clear. He has the quality to be in the starting line-up of any club at any time. If that is not the case, it’s because something is still missing and he needs to keep working.

“Obviously, I would tell him to stay – you don’t need to ask that question. He’s a great player. His pace makes me crazy. That’s just great.

“I want him at United in the best condition. Mourinho needs to maybe understand how to give him confidence. It’s a challenge that Martial has to overcome because I think he’s able to.”

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial has pretty much struggled to hold down a starting XI spot since the injury he sustained on the fateful day that Marcus Rashford made his debut.

The Englishman’s debut was so instantaneous that the versatile attacker has pretty much been forgotten about since.

Some fans feel an obvious favouritism to Rashford since he’s a Manchester man through and through since he was kid.

Whereas Martial has failed to capitalise on any poor form or injuries suffered by teammates in the Premier League campaigns.
