Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred all but confirmed he was joining Manchester United by liking a comment on social media welcoming him to Old Trafford.
The Brazilian, who has spoken of a desire to make the next step in his career, has been touted by Jose Mourinho – who needs to replace Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini this summer – since January.
It was revealed by the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, followed by the Guardian and Telegraph, on Thursday that a deal had been reached with the Ukrainian champions for Fred to move to Man United for £44m.
And as social media reacted to the impending prospect of Fred joining United’s midfield, the Brazilian couldn’t help but like a comment on Instagram welcoming him to the club.

There are some transfer stories which are merely chit chat, whispers and murmurs and online gossip, dealing entirely in hypotheticals and not to be taken particularly seriously.
But then there are the stories which genuinely do hold some weight. And these ones feel entirely different, entailing an intangible sense of continued evolution towards the inevitable sight of the player holding the shirt and speaking of how excited they are to be at their new club.
And make no mistake: we are at this stage with Fred, who looks as if he’ll join Man United next week.
