Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ‘already sold’ to Manchester United

Matteo Materazzi, the brother of Marco Materazzi, has bizarrely claimed that SS Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has already been sold to Manchester United.

Milinkovic-Savic has been heavily rumoured to be one of two midfield targets for Jose Mourinho this summer with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini‘s contract set to expire, the other being Shakhtar Donetsk defensive midfielder Fred.

However, reports over the past few days suggest that Man United have baulked over the fee Lazio are wanting for the 23-year-old after he had another impressive season in Italy.

Materazzi, quoted in CalcioMercato.com, seemingly revealed that Milinkovic-Savic is United’s first signing of the transfer window though: ”Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, in my opinion, has already been sold for big money to a team, Manchester United.”

He also claimed that the club are waiting to sell Paul Pogba, who has endured a tough return to life in England after leaving Serie A in 2016, to make space for a new man with a similar playing style: “They are also waiting to sell Pogba, to make room to bring in the Serbian official.”

Milinkovic-Savic bagged 14 goals and nine assists last season which has made him in demand by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but Lazio reportedly want around €100 million for his services.

Mourinho might hold off making a move for the Serb this summer, with the Russia World Cup making negotiations much more difficult than usual, but if he continues to make the headlines you wouldn’t bet on him making the switch to Old Trafford in the near future.
