Duncan Castles: Ander Herrera will probably be retained at Manchester United

by Marwan Harraz

Duncan Castles believes Ander Herrera will most likely remain at Manchester United next season after rumours have surfaced on his future.

The Spaniard has been linked with AC Milan and with one year remaining on his contract, now would be the time to sell him should that be Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Herrera arrived at United under former boss Louis van Gaal but has played his best football under the Portuguese manager.

Last season saw the tenacious midfielder voted the player of the year for the club as he impressed fans and teammates alike.

However, this season has been a tremendous fall from grace for Ander though Castles thinks he should still be in the manager’s good books.

According to the Daily Star, Duncan said on the Transfer Window podcast: “Ander Herrera I think has done enough at the tail-end of the season to get back in Mourinho’s good books and will probably be retained.”

Keeping Ander Herrera on board does make sense for Mourinho, particularly if he truly wants to focus on revamping the Red Devils’ defence this summer transfer window.

With Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini looking more and more likely to leave, retaining the former Atletico Bilbao star seems the right decision at the moment.

Herrera has had an average season mostly because he’s suffered from injuries but it’s also because Jose has tasked him with a new role that perhaps he’s needed to adapt to.
